Every summer, we come together for an afternoon of fun, friends and premium grilled meat – backed by a team of grill masters working tirelessly to make sure everyone has a good time. And we know they do – as the number of happy bellies, and donations, has been increasing every year!
The idea is simple – WE prepare an incredible Brazilian feast: think picanha, feijoada and caipirinhas (and something for vegans too!) – while YOU eat and drink to your heart’s content! In exchange, all we ask is that the minimum you give is what you think the meal would cost at a restaurant.
In case this is the first you’ve heard of this, the barbecue is now in its 9th year! Previous years’ proceeds have gone to Doctors Without Borders, War Child, Amnesty International and Save the Rhino International. Last year’s fundraising for MOAS was a huge success – and their increasing need for support with the current global migration crisis has prompted us to shine the spotlight on this brave cause once again.
MOAS believes that no one deserves to die at sea. They are passionate about the plight of those attempting to flee violence and oppression, desperate enough to put themselves and their families in danger by setting off on one of the world’s deadliest maritime migration routes. Started by two entrepreneurs after witnessing a lack of response to a distress call off the Italian coast where hundreds drowned in October 2013, they have to date rescued 33,455 refugees and, with the help of donations, continue to give hope to more every day.
They started off in the Mediterranean and through the support they receive from people around the world have been able to go on missions in the Aegean and Andaman Sea, saving thousands from getting lured by trawlers to be held for ransom, and from the brutal weather and temperature conditions out in their unseaworthy boats.
Donating through MOAS is simple, fast and totally secure, and your money goes straight to the charity based in Malta. As we enjoy the afternoon with food and friends, let’s think about those who don’t have that luxury, and do our little part to help support this very praiseworthy disaster relief initiative.
